City Attorney Terry Wood Retires After 24 Years of Service

GREENSBORO, NC (July 13, 2010) – City Attorney Terry Wood will retire from the City of Greensboro effective August 31, 2010, after more than two decades of service. Wood joined the City as deputy counsel for the Legal Department in 1985 and worked his way up to become the City’s head attorney.

“It has truly been an honor to serve City Council, the city manager and residents of Greensboro over the past 24 years,” said Wood. “The City of Greensboro is full of fine professionals who work to do what is best for this community and I will always admire their work as they continue to improve the quality of life for residents.”

As city attorney, Wood acts as senior corporate counsel, or legal advisor, to the city manager, department heads and City Council. He supervises a staff of seven attorneys, four paralegals and two secretaries.

Wood first retired from the City in 2006 and continued to work for the City on a part-time basis until he was selected as lead attorney in 2008.

“The depth of legal knowledge Terry possesses has been a great asset to this organization,” said City Manager Rashad Young. “I have thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated his support, expertise and commitment to the City of Greensboro. He will be missed.”

A search process for his replacement will begin in the next several weeks. An interim city attorney will be named before Wood retires.
