MPO Releases Transportation Funding Document

Greensboro, NC (March 1, 2011) - The Greensboro Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), the lead planning agency for the Greensboro Department of Transportation, has announced a public review and comment period for a federally required transportation planning document. The Draft 2012-2018 Metropolitan Transportation Improvement Program (MTIP) is available for review throughout March both online and via several planned public workshops.  

The MTIP is the official funding schedule for near term highway, transit, rail, bicycle, and pedestrian projects. Three public workshops are scheduled to give residents an opportunity to receive detailed information and give input into the Draft 2012 - 2018 MTIP. The dates and locations for the workshops include:
• March 8, 4-7 pm, at Peeler Recreation Center, 1300 Sykes Avenue
• March 16, 4-7 pm, at Brown Recreation Center, 302 East Vandalia Road
• March 22, 4-7 pm, at Bur-Mil Clubhouse, 5834 Bur-Mil Club Road

Residents can also download draft documents and offer comments online. Comments will also be accepted by phone, fax, or mail by contacting Lydia McIntyre at 336-373-3117. All comments are due by March 31.

The Greensboro Urban Area MPO coordinates transportation planning for much of Guilford County, including the City of Greensboro and the Towns of Oak Ridge, Pleasant Garden, Sedalia, Stokesdale, and Summerfield. Burlington, Gibsonville, Whitsett, High Point, and Jamestown are outside the MPO’s planning area. The MPO’s policy board contains elected officials from Greensboro and Guilford County along with a member of the North Carolina Board of Transportation.
