Fair Housing Month Program Set for April 18
GREENSBORO, NC – (April 8, 2011) – The City of Greensboro’s Human Relations Department (HRD) along with the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) are sponsoring a Fair Housing Month program on Monday, April 18. The day’s events, broken into two sessions that are free and open to the public, begin with morning session registration at 8:30 am at the International Civil Rights Center and Museum, 134 S. Elm St. Attendees are asked to use the February One Place (side) entrance. The event will feature a keynote address by HUD’s US Deputy Secretary Ron Sims. Sims, one of the senior officials at HUD, is nationally recognized for his work in homelessness, urban development, and affordable housing. Additional speakers will include City and other HUD representatives.
An afternoon session on fair housing training begins with registration at 1:30 pm and will cover the Fair Housing Act and the Greensboro Fair Housing Ordinance. It is open to residential sellers, renters, lenders, insurance providers, appraisers, and anyone else involved in housing-related transactions and residents interested in fair housing laws.
“April 2011 marks the 43rd anniversary of the Fair Housing Act of 1968,” says Dr. Abdel Nuriddin, Human Relations Commission Chair. “This program highlights the importance of this act and provides training to foster inclusive housing practices in support of positive community development.”
