'Flag of Hope' Comes to Greensboro Cultural Center

GREENSBORO, NC -- (February 24, 2011) -- On Friday, March 4, Latino visual artist Edwin Gill will bring his 'Flag of Hope' initiative to the Greensboro Cultural Center, during the First Friday festivities, sponsored by City Arts.

Flag of Hope aspires to promote hope, understanding and acceptance within North Carolina’s diverse communities. Greensboro will be the first of several urban centers and rural communities across the state where Gill will collect handprints and signatures on a giant canvas, which will become the world’s largest diversity flag (36 feet by 70 feet).

Residents are invited to stop by the center from 5:30-9:30 pm Friday and from 9 am to 1 pm Saturday, March 5, to participate in this unity event by placing their handprint on the flag. On Friday, mini-dance performances and free demonstration classes will be conducted by the World Dance Exchange, Cyrus Arts Productions, the Aine Walsh Kelly School of Irish Dance and other “Teachers In Residence” from the City Arts programs.

The Greensboro Cultural Center is located at 200 N. Davie St. For more information, call City Arts at 336-373-2731.
