Library’s Lifeverse Project Seeking Volunteers

GREENSBORO, NC -- (January 14, 2011) -- Do stories of the past fascinate you? Are you interested sharing your time with older adults? Do you enjoy engaging others in conversation? If so, the City of Greensboro needs you.

LifeVerse, a program sponsored by the Greensboro Public Library, is in its fourth year and is currently in need of volunteers. You will spend an hour a week for four to six weeks with older adults in Guilford County using poetry and verse to spark conversations and capture stories. You do not have to be a poetry lover to be an ideal volunteer. What is needed are people who have a genuine interest in spending time with older adults.

Volunteers are asked to attend two training sessions at the Central Library, 219 N. Church St., before being placed in the program:

  • Saturday, January 22, from 11 am to 1 pm, and Sunday, January 23, from 2-4 pm; or
  • Saturday, January 29, from 11 am to 1 pm, and Sunday, January 30, from 2-4 pm

University/college students interested in receiving community service hours are encouraged to participate.

Pre-registration is required. To volunteer, or for more information, call Jacinta White at 336-830-5486 or Steve Sumerford at 336-373-3636.
