Greensboro Police Promotions Announced
GREENSBORO, NC – (February 11, 2011) – The Greensboro Police Department (GPD) announced today a series of promotions in the department’s leadership. One member of the department will ascend to the role of assistant chief and three members to the role of captain. Those promoted include: Capt. Chris Walker, Southern Division, to assistant chief, and Lieutenants Mike Richey, Eastern Division, Rich Culler, Investigative Support Division, and James Hinson, Special Operations, to captains.
“We are fortunate to have a strong depth of candidates to select from within the department. The individuals who were selected performed exceptionally well in the promotional process,” said Police Chief Ken Miller. “Now with a full complement within my leadership team, it gives us the ability to push ahead with setting in place new policy and practices to help benefit our communities.”
The candidates participated in a rigorous promotional process that was restructured last year consistent with some of the recommendations from the Buracker report. Included in the evaluation process was a written exercise blindly evaluated by police professionals outside the GPD; a panel interview that consisted of law enforcement professionals, City professionals, business professionals, and community leaders; a peer assessment that incorporated feedback from lieutenants, captains, assistant chiefs and non-sworn division directors; and a file review which evaluated the candidates’ past performance.
“The selected candidates are individuals who have performed with the utmost integrity, demonstrated exemplary leadership abilities, and stood out as the future of the GPD,” said Assistant City Manager Michael Speedling. “As we forge ahead on our mission to continuously improve as a department, these are the skills important to guide us forward as an organization.”
Members of the Greensboro Police Department were informed today of the leadership changes. The selected candidates will assume their roles over the next few weeks.
