City's Student Relations Commission Holds Conference March 29

GREENSBORO, NC – (March 24, 2011) – The Greensboro Student Human Relations Commission will hold its third annual Conference of 300 on Tuesday, March 29, from 9 am to 4:30 pm, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 1301 Alamance Church Rd.

The goal of the conference is to help Guilford County student commissioners better understand differences, learn how to promote positive human relations in school, and encourage the decline of antisocial behavior such as bullying and discrimination. Facilitated sessions will focus on identifying human relations issues – including bullying, separatist behaviors, pre-judgment and discrimination – and ways to promote positive human relations in schools by understanding foreign nationals, race and racism, and the LGBT community.

The SHRC was formed in the 2008-09 school year when the Guilford County Board of Education and its senior staff partnered with the City of Greensboro’s Human Relations Department to establish a 15-member SHRC at 20 local high schools. The 20 high schools participating with the Greensboro Human Relations Department are: The Academy at Smith, Dudley, Eastern Guilford, The Early College at Guilford, Grimsley, The Middle College at N.C. A&T, The Middle College at Bennett College for Women, Greensboro College Middle College, The Middle College at GTCC-Greensboro, The Middle College at GTCC-Jamestown, GCS Newcomers School, Northeast Guilford, Northern Guilford, Northwest Guilford, Page, Ragsdale, Smith, Southeast Guilford, Weaver Academy and Western Guilford.
