City Solid Waste Collection/Disposal Service Updates

GREENSBORO, NC – (January 10, 2011) – All City of Greensboro solid waste collection services, including garbage, recycling, yard waste, bulk and dumpster collection, are currently operating on schedule. Plans are to complete all Monday, January 10, collection routes, weather permitting.

Due to weather and roadway conditions in Montgomery County, the Burnt Poplar Transfer Station contractor is unable to haul solid waste to the Republic Landfill today. City staff plans to send all waste to the Burnt Poplar Transfer Station until transfer trailers are filled and prepared for transport. Once that capacity is reached (estimated mid-day), waste will be diverted to the White Street landfill. White Street landfill staff is currently preparing the site to accept these trucks. This is a temporary solution in response to this specific weather event.

As soon as roadway conditions south of Greensboro allow for safe travel, normal operation of the transfer station will resume.
