Science, Technology, and Teens Invade Library March 6-11
GREENSBORO, NC (February 24, 2011) – A free week-long event designed to give young people the opportunity to celebrate and experience advances in technology comes to the Greensboro library system March 6-11. Teen Tech Week culminates with a technology fair Friday, March 11, from 4-7 pm, at Central Library, 219 N. Church St.
Activities at various Library branches include hands-on opportunities for teenagers to learn more about robots, computers and NASA technology. The tech fair offers a flight simulator, gaming, computers and networking, and 3D technology. Funding for the fair is provided, in part, through a $1,000 grant from the Time Warner Cable “Connect a Million Minds” initiative.
Event activities include: Sunday, March 6, 2:30 pm (Central Library): Robo Xplosion – teams from NC A&T State University and Grimsley High School race their robots through an obstacle course.
Tuesday, March 8, 6:30 pm (McGirt-Horton Branch): Digital Scrapbook Making – teens can learn how to use their digital camera and cell phone cameras to make scrapbooks.
Wednesday, March 9, 4 pm (Vance Chavis Branch): Rebuild! Recycle! Reboot! – attendees can learn how to build their own computer. Call 336-373-5838 before March 4 to register to attend.
Thursday, March 10, 6-8 pm (Hemphill Library): eBook Reader Demonstration – learn how to access eBooks on laptops and mobile devices.
Thursday, March 10, 4-5:30 pm (Kathleen Clay Edwards Family Library): NASA Space Technology – Madscience offers a workshop to teach kids how to use lasers and radar technology. Call 373-4559 to register.
Friday, March 11, 4-7 pm (Central Library): Teen Tech Fair.
