Workforce Development Board Turns Focus to Literacy in February
Regional partnership creates awareness campaign

GREENSBORO, NC (February 8, 2011) – The Guilford County Workforce Development Board, managed by the City of Greensboro, has partnered with six other workforce development boards across the region to promote literacy awareness during the month of February. The partnership group, called TriadWorks, recently launched the “Get Not Out of Your Life” campaign to encourage literacy in the community.

According to Lillian Plummer, director of the Guilford County Workforce Development Board and member of TriadWorks, the program brings literacy to the forefront to address a need in the community. “Literacy is undoubtedly a workforce issue. My job, and that of my colleagues, is to ensure that there are effective programs in place to the support the development of a highly-skilled, literate, and motivated workforce.”

In addition to representatives from Guilford County, workforce development board representatives from the Northwest Piedmont, Davidson, Pee Dee and Kerr-Tar Interlocal Cooperative regions are involved in the TriadWorks partnership. Under TriadWorks’ direction, the Guilford County JobLink Career Center offers personal assistance to individuals in the community who need educational and training programs to increase their literacy skills.

The “Get Not Out of Your Life” campaign uses posters, brochures and fast-food restaurant tray liners to offer positive messages of encouragement based on the theme of removing the word “not,” and its negative connotation, from a person’s line of thinking. The materials also drive traffic to the TriadWorks website, www.triadworks.org, where a Literacy and Lifelong Learning Guide can be viewed along with information on each of the partner agencies.
