Valuable Lessons Learned at Water Festival Event April 6

GREENSBORO, NC (April 5, 2011) – The City of Greensboro's Parks and Recreation and Water Resources departments play host to area fifth graders as part of the annual “Water Festival” from 9 am to 1 pm Wednesday, April 6, at Bryan Park / Lake Townsend Marina / Townsend Water Treatment Plant, 6275 Bryan Park Rd., Browns Summit. More than 350 local students are expected to participate in eight fun and exciting hands-on water activities that support the fifth grade curriculum.

Presenters at the festival include the Water Resources, Field Operations and Parks and Recreation departments, Guilford Soil and Water Conservation District, NC Wildlife Commission, and Guilford Association of Scuba Personnel. Activities involve the city’s water distribution system, water cycle, fish identification, stream biology, erosion, water conservation, water safety, and water treatment chemicals.

In addition, the event provides important leadership opportunities for students from UNCG Recreation, Tourism, and Hospitality Management Program, and Elementary Education Teaching Program.
