NC Youth Summit Starts April 15

GREENSBORO, NC – (April 12, 2011) – More than 200 high school and college students from across the state are expected to attend the fifth annual NC Youth Summit Friday and Saturday, April 15-16, at Embassy Suites, 204 Centrepoint Dr. The theme of this year's event is “Refocus: Same You, New Attitude.”

Workshops will focus on social networking and use of technology and entrepreneurship. Participants will also attend panel discussions split by gender, allowing them a chance to talk in a safe environment with adults who can help them discover solutions to various issues. Kwain Bryant, founder of the Empowerment Exchange, is the keynote speaker.

Because the event falls on Global Youth Service Day, attendees have collected donated items, such as toiletries and books, to send to US military troops overseas. The local organization Soldier’s Angels will be at the event to accept the donations and give the students a chance to write notes to send with the care packages.

The event is coordinated and sponsored by the state's Workforce Development Boards. The City of Greensboro is one of the organizations that administers Guilford County's board. For more information, contact Crystal Zellous, with the City's training and employment division, at 336-373-3014.
