Roadway constructionThe Engineering & Inspections Department works to provide safe and reliable public infrastructure through plan review and construction inspections of roadway, water and sewer infrastructure. The department also works to ensure safe homes and workplaces with healthy and attractive neighborhoods through the enforcement of NC Building Code and local ordinances, building plan review, housing inspections, building and trades inspections, soil erosion, and control and abatement of nuisances such as overgrown lots or abandoned vehicles.

In addition, Engineering & Inspections provides services to other City departments for the design, engineering, contract administration, and project management of roadway, water, sewer and storm sewer projects, as well as the construction and renovation of City facilities such as fire stations, libraries, and recreation centers. It provides mechanical, electrical and custodial services to City-owned and operated facilities, manages and administers City of Greensboro franchise and cell tower agreements, acquires and manages City-owned properties and right-of-ways, and manages the filing and maintenance of all infrastructure and facilities plans and records.
