Parks & Recreation

The nationally-accredited and award-winning Parks and Recreation Department operates 170 parks, gardens and special facilities, spanning over 3,500 acres of park land, open space and beautification areas. Facilities include neighborhood and regional parks, three public gardens, seven swimming pools (three indoor pools), two golf courses, tennis courts, three lakes, four cemeteries, and over 90 miles of hiking and biking trails.
 
The Department also operates City Arts, Greensboro Sportsplex, Carolyn S. Allen Community Park and Athletic Complex, and the Simkins Indoor Sports Pavilion at Barber Park. Year-round programs are especially designed for newborns through senior citizens, including programs for those with special needs.
