Stormwater
The Stormwater Management Division of Water Resources provides repair and maintenance of public stormwater conveyance structures such as street shoulders, catch basins, drainage pipes, and stream channels.
The City charges a quarterly stormwater management fee based on the amount of impervious (built-upon) area on your property. Higher levels of impervious area create greater amounts of stormwater runoff that the City is required to manage. This fee is used to improve water quality, manage public drainage infrastructure, minimize flood hazards, and educate the public about the importance of managing stormwater.
Single-family properties with 600 to 1,999 square feet of impervious area are charged $4.50 per quarter. Properties with 2,000 to 2,899 square feet of impervious area are charged $8.10 per quarter. Properties with 2,900+ square feet of impervious area are charged $11.70 per quarter. Commercial, industrial, institutional, and other properties are charged based upon total impervious area defined as the number of Equivalent Residential Units on the property. The amount of impervious area is determined through Geographic Informational System (GIS) mapping.
The stormwater fee will appear on your water bill. If you do not receive a City water bill, the stormwater fee will be billed separately.
The City will manage your stormwater drainage system / drainage ditch if there is public runoff water in the ditch or other drainage way. Public runoff is any drainage from public roads or other public land areas and any drainage conveyance such as an open channel stream, pipe, or culvert below the point where it becomes public. However, if the runoff originates solely from private property, then the City can provide technical advice, but cannot spend public funds on private drainage improvements. Landowners and residents may contact the Stormwater Division for more information.
