Mitchell Water Treatment Plant, Greensboro, NC (Details provided after registration)
Greensboro depends on three surface water sources to supply the city's water: Lake Townsend, Lake Brandt, and Lake Higgins. The lakes are located within a protected watershed in northern Guilford County in the upper Cape Fear River Basin. When full, Greensboro’s reservoirs hold about eight billion gallons of water.
Drinking water from Lake Brandt is treated at the Mitchell Water Treatment Plant, and water from Lake Townsend is treated at the Townsend Water Treatment Plant. From there, the water is tested and pumped into the distribution system. On average, both plants treat and deliver about 34.7 million gallons daily to nearly 321,000 customers. Join us to learn more about the water treatment process on the Mitchell Water Treatment Plant Tour!
Closed-toed shoes and pants are required. If necessary, bring a reusable water bottle, hat, and sunscreen.
