City Reports Untreated Sewage Discharge
On June 20, the City of Greensboro had a discharge of approximately 335,000 gallons of untreated wastewater from its sewer force main located at 6595 Judge Adams Rd. The discharge took place for about 31 hours due to a hit 16-inch force main. About 75,000 of the 335,000 gallons reached surface water. The untreated wastewater entered Little Alamance Creek, tributary of the Cape Fear River basin. About 260,000 gallons of the untreated wastewater spill was contained by using sewer vacuum equipment and tanker trucks. The force main was repaired to prevent further discharge. Lime and straw was spread on the affected ground surface areas.
