Parks and Recreation Celebrates ‘A Lifetime of Discovery’ in July

Post Date:06/29/2018 10:07 AM

Greensboro will celebrate National Parks and Recreation Month this July with social media contests, prize giveaways, and the third annual Parks and Rec Fest on July 29.

This year’s theme is “A Lifetime of Discovery,” and Parks and Recreation is encouraging residents to try something new – and share it.

“We’ve got so many great parks and programs, you can have an adventure right here in Greensboro,” said Parks and Recreation Director Nasha McCray. “Go try a stand-up paddle board, walk a new trail, test your skills at a skate park, or check out one of the Summer Night Lights programs. If you need more ideas, visit our social media pages to check out our video series throughout the month. Once you’ve had your adventure, snap a picture of you or your family, tag it #DiscoverGSO, and share it with Parks and Recreation on Facebook or Instagram. We’ll randomly choose one participant to win a prize package every week.”

Weekly prize packages have an estimated value of $230. They include free kayak and archery rentals, Kindermusik lessons, a Sportsplex birthday package, pontoon boat rides, pool passes, Greensboro Science Center tickets, rounds of golf, a block party registration, a LimeBike gift bag and other Parks and Recreation goodies. The person who posts the most pictures by 5 pm, Friday July 27, will get VIP access to Parks and Rec Fest for themselves and 15 friends.

Parks and Rec Fest will be held from 4-8 pm, Sunday, July 29, at Gillespie Golf Course. It's a day of free family fun, games, inflatables, giveaways worth more than $400, and a live MUSEP concert featuring the blues and R&B group Sweet Dreams and rock and variety group the Rob Massengale Band. Food and beer are available for purchase.

Visit the mist tent for a Plan2Play Community Conversation, the last community meeting before the department completes its 2038 comprehensive plan. There will be short presentations at 4:30, 5 and 5:30 pm and a chance to win tickets to Cirque du Soleil or the Carolina Cobras for everyone who visits the tent.

Visit the Parks and Rec Month page for contest information and other details.
