City Announces Holiday Closings

City offices are closed on Monday, December 24, Tuesday, December 25, Wednesday, December 26, as well as Tuesday, January 1, 2019 for the holidays. The following services and facilities will operate on a holiday schedule:

  • Trash and recycling collections on Monday, December 24 take place as usual. No collection services on Tuesday, December 25. Tuesday’s collection will take place on Wednesday, December 26
  • Trash and recycling collections on Monday, December 31 take place as usual. No collection services on Tuesday, January 1. Tuesday’s collection will take place on Wednesday, January 2, 2019.
  • The White Street Landfill and the Solid Waste Transfer Station will be closed Tuesday, December 25 and Tuesday, January 1, 2019.
  • The Greensboro Public Library system and the Greensboro History Museum will be closed Monday, December 24 through Wednesday, December 26, as well as Tuesday, January 1, 2019.
  • Greensboro Transit Authority (GTA) is operating on the following schedule for the holidays: ●Monday, December 24 – normal hourly service ending at 6 pm ●Tuesday, December 25 – no service

    HEAT will not operate during the entire holiday period. The GTA Administrative offices are closed Monday, December 24, Tuesday, December 25, Wednesday, December 26, and Tuesday, January 1.

  • Parks and Recreation:
    • Recreation centers will be closed Monday, December 24 through Wednesday, December 26. Each center will close at 6 pm on Monday, December 31 and will be closed on Tuesday, January 1, 2019.
    • The Greensboro Sportsplex and Simpkins Sports Pavilion will be closed Monday, December 24 through Wednesday, December 26, as well as Tuesday, January 1, 2019.
    • The Smith Senior Center will be closed Monday, December 24 through Wednesday, December 26. It will also be closed Monday, December 31 and Tuesday, January 1, 2019.
    • Gillespie Golf Course closes at 4 pm on Monday, December 24 and will be closed Tuesday, December 25. The course will operate on its normal schedule the remainder of the year.
    • The Greensboro Youth Council Office will be closed beginning Friday, December 21 and reopen Monday, January 7, 2019.
    • The three City lakes will be closed will be closed Monday, December 24 and Tuesday, December 25. Lake Higgins will be open on Wednesday, December 26, while Lake Brandt and Townsend remain closed. Lake Brandt and Townsend will be open on Monday, December 31 and all three lakes will be closed on Tuesday, January 1, 2019.
    • The Greensboro Cultural Center will be open from 1-4 pm on Sunday, December 23 and closed Monday, December 24 through Wednesday, December 26. It will be open on Monday, December 31 from 8 am to 6 pm and closed on Tuesday, January 1, 2019.
    • The regional parks will be closed on Tuesday, December 25 only.
    • The cemeteries and botanical gardens will remain open.
  • Emergency service is available for water and sewer needs after normal business hours and on weekends. Water customers can call 336-373-2489 (CITY) to report water or sewer problems. After placing the call, please follow the prompts to connect to the Water Resources dispatcher.
