Greensboro Celebrates Parks and Recreation Month
Greensboro will celebrate National Parks and Recreation Month this July with a special Adult Recess event, a Greensboro Trails Day celebration, a citywide scavenger hunt, and more.
This year’s theme is “Game On,” and Parks and Recreation is encouraging residents to challenge their friends and neighbors to a game or two at their local recreation center or park. Parks and Recreation Director Nasha McCray will lead the way with a series of friendly competitions with some of your favorite locals. Check them out on the Parks and Recreation Facebook page beginning July 8.
The games continue at a brand new special event targeted at adults 21 and older. Adult Recess will be held from 6-9 pm, Friday, July 19, at the Barber Park Spray Ground, 1500 Barber Park Dr. This free event will feature all your favorite nostalgic playground games like four square and kickball, adults-only sprayground access, and music from the ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s. Beer from your favorite local breweries will be available to purchase.
For the family, check out Greensboro Trails Day, 8 am to 12 noon, Saturday, July 27, at Country Park, 3802 Jaycee Park Dr. There will be guided hikes, mountain bike rides and trail runs, BMX bike demos, water activities, and more. For the little ones, there will be a one-of-a-kind kids adventure course. The first 150 kids to register will receive a medal. Sign up for activities at www.greensboro-nc.gov/trailsday.
Trivia lovers will get a kick out of this year’s Parks and Recreation Month contest – the “I Heart #GSOParksandRec” Scavenger Hunt. Each week, we’ll hide a “heart” in one of our parks or botanical gardens. Follow the clues posted every Friday afternoon on our Facebook page to find where. The people who finds each will win a Parks and Recreation prize pack worth approximately $100.
Every heart will be hidden in plain sight. So stay on trails, sidewalks, and open fields and out of sensitive habitats, water, and planted areas. No climbing or off-roading will be required to win the game.
