Greensboro Police to Consolidate Public Service in Downtown Location

Currently, the Greensboro Police Department is continuing to respond to calls for service with no interruptions. Effective March 18, GPD will close the public lobbies of the Maple Street and Swing Road substations. Public facing services will be centralized from 10 am to 3 pm each weekday at Police Headquarters, 100 E. Police Plaza. In addition, public fingerprinting and Property and Evidence pick-up will be suspended beginning March 18.

Residents in need of emergency service should continue to call 911 and 336-373-2222 in non-emergency situations. Residents in need of non-critical services should only visit Police Headquarters between the hours of 10 am and 3 pm. GPD will continue to evaluate the situation to address changes going forward.

Police Officers have been provided instructions and are following CDC guidelines during this time to allow us to meet the needs of the community. The police department is requesting that residents adhere to the CDC recommendations and the Governor’s Executive order regarding gatherings. This will allow safety for the community and first responders, as well as prevention of potential of criminal charges associated with non-compliance of these directions. The Governor’s Executive Order prohibits gatherings of over 100 persons and violators can be charged with a class 2 misdemeanor. Locations such as grocery stores, medical facilities, and bus or train depots are not included in this order. As with all calls for service, officers understand that discretion is an important part of response to the warning or enforcement of these orders. All complaints about restaurants operating outside of compliance should be directed to Guilford County Environmental Health Services Restaurant Inspections.

Outside of the limited 10 am to 3 pm hours the Watch Operations Center will operate in the same manner as normal after hour’s operation, and will be available 24 hours a day. Once again the police department is requesting that residents adhere to the CDC recommendations and the Governor’s Executive order regarding gatherings and continue to follow best practices relating to social distancing.
