Modified Development Services' Inspection Policies Now in Effect

Post Date:04/02/2020 11:00 AM

The City's Development Services-related field inspections policies, processes and workflows when working with the local building industry have been adjusted to protect customers, staff and residents from the spread of COVID-19. The policy modifications outlined below may be updated as the current health situation changes.

These are now in effect, as of April 1, to provide a safe environment for all concerned:

  • When performing in-person inspections in occupied spaces, particularly in areas where it may be difficult to maintain six feet of social distancing, City inspectors may request the area be cleared of occupants and construction personnel. This will provide a safe environment for all concerned.
  • City inspectors may request that residential HVAC change-out inspections in existing homes, duplexes, townhouses, apartment units and condo units that are occupied be performed via Live Remote (LR). LR inspections involve the permit holder using either a smart phone or another hand-held device to show and demonstrate code compliance without requiring an inspector to be physically present at the project.
  • If LR inspections are not feasible or cannot be completed, an inspector may request the unit be cleared of occupants during inspection or the inspection be re-scheduled for a later date.

"We are dedicated to serving our partners within the building industry even under these extraordinary circumstances," says Mike Lewis, Development Services manager. "The safety and security of our organization and our community is our top priority during this time."
