City Manager Taiwo Jaiyeoba has named Reginald Mason the City of Greensboro’s first Transit Department Director.

The newly created Transit Department will begin overseeing the Greensboro Transit Agency (GTA) on August 23. The Greensboro Department of Transportation (GDOT) has overseen GTA since 1991 when it first began operating City transit buses. The Duke Power Company operated a private bus system from 1925 to 1991 in Greensboro.

“Reginald touts an impressive career, managing transit agencies in cities much larger than Greensboro. This positions him to develop a strategic approach to introduce innovation and efficiency to our existing transit system,” said City Manager Taiwo Jaiyeoba.

Mason will be responsible for city-wide transit planning and transit management activities, as well as developing long-range public transportation plans. He will also provide leadership to the GTA management team and manage all existing transit services, including oversight of in-house and contracted transit services.

“Greensboro’s transit system has a solid historical foundation, which is what drew me to apply for this position. I’m ready to collaborate with staff and the community to implement shared ideas designed to make navigating the city easy and convenient,” said Reginald Mason, director Greensboro Transit Department.

Prior to coming to Greensboro, Mason served in safety, security, risk management, and operations roles at major transit agencies across the country, including Chicago, Atlanta, San Francisco and Houston. He also has experience working in the private sector. Mason most recently he served as a project certification manager for the construction consulting firm Hill International in Phoenix, Arizona.

Mason has a Bachelor’s degree in safety management and a Master’s in occupational safety and health management from Indiana State University. He has a Master’s of Public Administration from Golden Gate University.
