GREENSBORO – (March 27, 2008) – A Greensboro Police officer who has been suspended without pay since November was arrested this morning and charged with seven felonies related to financial fraud and identity theft.

Officer B.J. Coble, 30, who has been a Greensboro Police officer since November 16, 2000, was charged with one count of obtaining property by false pretenses, one count of identity theft, and five counts of financial transaction card fraud.

Chief Tim Bellamy said Coble has been suspended without pay since November 1, 2007 as a result of an unrelated issue. Coble’s salary is $45,817.

Bellamy said most of the warrants served this morning were for charges that were alleged to have occurred after Coble’s suspension.

The criminal investigation is continuing, as is an internal administrative investigation. The investigation originated following a complaint from the victim. The Police Department does not release the names of victims in financial crimes.
