About the Artist

Patricia Sánchez, known professionally as Tabata Chisse, is a photographer and makeup artist. A native of Mexico City, Sanchez has shown in 10 exhibitions across Mexico, and at Casa Azul’s exhibit “Chronicles de Cocina: The stories we tell through Latinx food” at the African American Atelier. Sánchez focuses mainly on conceptual photography, blending digital photography with digital manipulation, allowing her to draw within the images captured by the camera. She uses photography to express and process her feelings, and to show how she sees the world.
About the Artwork

Have you ever thought about what it would be like to lose everything you have overnight? Your favorite places, your closest friends, your family, the home where you grew up... the food and the spaces tied to your memories, and, in a way, even yourself in the process?
"The Mourning of the Immigrant" is a call for reflection — an evocation of the person we once were and the one we are forging in new landscapes, new spaces, and new opportunities.
