Creative Greensboro has partnered three professional artists with three youth artists to work in mentor-apprentice teams to create art for Greensboro bus shelters.
The teams are part of the Neighborhood Arts: Next Up program, which is designed for youth artists to express themselves positively and constructively through the arts and have real life, experiential training in creative entrepreneurship.
This fall each team will do community engagement and create a digital design for reproduction and installation in bus shelters located in Dudley Heights, Glenwood, and Kings Forest. The mentor-apprentice teams, and the neighborhood bus shelters they will design, are the following:
- James Raleigh, Jr. and Raegan Kelly – Dudley Heights
- Gabrielle Edwards and Lily Oatis – Glenwood
- Emilio Marz and Zion Jones – Kings Forest
The professional mentor artists will provide a supportive learning environment for the youth apprentice artists, co-lead with them in all aspects of the community engagement and design process, and offer them opportunities to practice leadership, teamwork, and design skills. The youth artist will present the final design to a community stakeholders’ group.
