Creative Greensboro is currently accepting applications for its Greensboro Residency for Original Works (GROW).
Guilford County-based creative individuals, unincorporated groups, and non-profit organizations can apply through September 17 for residencies of up to 12 weeks occurring between January and December 2026. Applicants are encouraged to attend an in-person information session on August 18 or 25 at 5:30 pm, and schedule a one-on-one online consultation with Coordinator of Community Partnerships Naomi Woods at 336-373-2661 or naomi.woods@greensboro-nc.gov prior to submitting an application.

GROW, established in 2020, is a flexible space located just inside the Davie Street entrance to the Greensboro Cultural Center, 200 N. Davie St. Creatives selected for a residency receive no-cost access to the 800-square-foot studio space, basic marketing support, and compensation of $300 per week of the residency, plus a $500 materials budget. Residencies must include at least six hours of free creative programming each week. Outside of the required six hours of free programming, residents may also use time in the space to sell their work, to offer other fee-based programming, or for private studio time.
Creative Greensboro welcomes residency proposals from individuals or groups with a history of producing and presenting creative programming, especially if they do not have regular access to space to produce or present their work. Priority will be given to projects that are programmatically diverse when compared to other activities already occurring in the Greensboro Cultural Center. Creative Greensboro is particularly interested in residencies that show a strong and intentional connection to community, supported by a clear, well-developed strategy for engaging and drawing new, previously unreached audiences to the Greensboro Cultural Center. Previous residencies have included digital and sculptural art installations, a community weaving project, ballet and hip-hop dance classes, and the design and production of an original film.
Current GROW resident Yvonna D. Johnson is offering several “Documentation Day” events where visual artists can bring their work in to be photographed or scanned in order to create high quality digital representations of their work. These events are especially beneficial for artists who wish to apply for residency opportunities like GROW. Yvonna’s residency ends August 18. Learn more at Yvonna’s website.
