City’s Transportation Director Appointed to National Committee

Post Date:08/05/2025 3:00 PM

City of Greensboro Transportation Director Hanna Cockburn has been appointed to the Transportation Research Board’s (TRB) Standing Committee on Bicycle Transportation. Cockburn’s term will run through April 2028.

TRB, a division of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, supports innovation and research that informs transportation policy and practice across the country. Following a major restructuring this year, TRB reduced the number of standing committees and established new appointments to reflect current policy and research priorities. Cockburn’s selection highlights her longstanding leadership in multimodal and sustainable transportation.

“I am honored to represent a municipal perspective on this national committee,” said Cockburn.

Cockburn brings over 25 years of transportation and planning experience to the committee. She has served as the City’s transportation director since 2020, and previously led bicycle and pedestrian program and integrated mobility programs at the NC Department of Transportation. She has also served on TRB’s previous committee focused on the transportation needs of national parks and public lands.

Cockburn holds leadership positions with the State Chapter of the American Planning Association and serves on several national and state-level task forces focused on transportation safety and clean communities. She was named a 2025 Vibrant Communities Fellow at the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy.
