City's Transportation Department Releases Two Documents for Public Review

Post Date:08/20/2025 2:10 PM

On behalf of the Greensboro Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (GUAMPO), the Greensboro Department of Transportation has released the MPO’s Draft Recommended Project List and Draft MPO Ranking Methodology for the FY 2028-2037 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) development process. These cover roadway, public transportation, bicycle, pedestrian, rail, and aviation projects, and are presented with supporting maps and materials through a StoryMap for public review.

The Draft Recommended Project List identifies the candidate projects that GUAMPO and its local government members are advancing for consideration in NCDOT’s Prioritization 8.0 process. Once NCDOT completes its initial quantitative scoring of all candidate projects, the Draft MPO Ranking Methodology will guide how GUAMPO assigns its limited local input points to help shape which projects move forward in the FY 2028-2037 State TIP/Metropolitan TIP. This ensures that local priorities are reflected alongside the statewide scoring.

Residents and other interested persons are invited to review and comment on the Draft Recommended Project List and Draft MPO Ranking Methodology through September 18. The Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC) will consider approval of the documents at its September 24 meeting, prior to the NCDOT deadline.

A virtual public meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 27, from noon to 1 pm via Microsoft Teams. Registration is required to attend. For more information about the meeting or to access the review materials, visit www.guampo.org

Interested persons are invited to complete the online survey available for each document at www.guampo.org. Comments may also be shared via:

  • Email: guampo@greensboro-nc.gov
  • Mail: Greensboro DOT/MPO, Attn: Craig McKinney, P.O. Box 3136, Greensboro, NC 27402-3136

All comments received by September 18 will be considered before final TAC approval.

GUAMPO manages the federally required transportation planning process for the area's highway, transit, bicycle, and pedestrian facilities. The Greensboro metropolitan planning area includes the City of Greensboro, the majority of unincorporated Guilford County, and the towns of Oak Ridge, Pleasant Garden, Sedalia, Stokesdale, and Summerfield. The MPO is responsible for coordinating transportation planning activities with federal, state, regional, and local entities, represented by professional staff, elected officials, and appointed representatives.
