About the Artist

Based in Greensboro, NC, Gabrielle Edwards thrives on the intersection of tradition and innovation. With a BFA in Drawing and Printmaking and an MA in Art and Design, she has developed a broad skill set that includes drawing, mixed media painting, oil painting, 3D modeling, and lighting design. Gabrielle is also actively exploring the immersive realms of VR and AR, using these technologies to create interactive, digital environments to engage viewers in new and captivating ways. Her artistic approach is marked by a commitment to exploration and pushing boundaries, often blending tactile mediums with digital art. She builds imaginative worlds where audiences are invited to experience a sense of wonder, reflecting her belief that art should transcend the ordinary and inspire a spirit of discovery. 

About the Artwork

"Reborn" was created during a transformative period in my growth as an artist, symbolizing the journey of self-reinvention. The divided colors of her face represent the many facets of identity she is exploring, while her steady gaze and the ethereal backdrop of planets and stars reflect her newfound understanding of her power to shape her own future. The bold textures in the underpainting were created with acrylic, inks, paint markers, oil pastels, and molding paste, allowing for an uninhibited creative process. These elements were later refined with layers of oil paint to bring an elegant finish, capturing the delicate balance between chaos and control. This work embodies the beauty of transformation and the strength found in embracing all aspects of oneself.
