Greensboro Police Chief John Thompson has announced plans to retire in February 2026 after 23 years of service to the City.
The City has contracted with executive search firm Developmental Associates to conduct a national search for the most qualified candidates. The firm will gather input from Greensboro Police Department employees and residents during the process.
Community input sessions are being held to collect resident feedback on the qualities they would like to see in the next chief of police. Additional meetings have been added in December and will take place on:
- Wednesday, December 3, from 6 to 8 pm at Leonard Recreation Center, located at 6324 Ballinger Rd.
- Thursday, December 4, from 6 to 8 pm at Brown Recreation Center, located at 302 E. Vandalia Rd.
