City To Activate Emergency Response Plan Ahead of Winter Weather

The City of Greensboro will activate its full emergency snow and ice response plan at midnight, Friday, December 5 in advance of the National Weather Service’s forecast of frozen precipitation during the early morning hours. The City’s pre-storm preparations began at 4 am today, with completion expected by 3 pm.

The City’s service-level goals for winter-weather response include the following:

  • clearing 90 percent of all Priority 1 routes (major thoroughfares, arterials, and public safety resources) within 36 hours of the end of the storm
  • clearing 75 percent of Priority 2 routes (minor thoroughfares, bus routes, and residential collectors) within 48 hours of the end of the storm,
  • clearing 75 percent of Priority 3 routes (residential collectors and neighborhood streets) within 72 hours of the end of the storm
