Creative Greensboro invites the public to “Final Verse: A Laureate’s Farewell,” offering audiences a powerful night of poetry, music, and meaningful dialogue, and marking the culmination of Josephus Thompson’s Poet Laureate term.
The event will take place at 7 pm on Friday, December 12, in Room 413 at the Greensboro Cultural Center, 200 N. Davie Street. This show is free and open to the public. Register here to reserve a spot.
In this one-man show, Thompson will share original poetry and reflect on his transformative journey as Greensboro’s inaugural poet laureate. He will also recount experiences from his recent travels to Kenya, weaving together themes of identity, heritage, and global connection.
“It has been my honor to be the first and usher in a new opportunity for poets to exist in a new and prominent way in our city,” said Thompson. “I look forward to continuing to steward and open doors for poets all over the world.”
“I’ve truly enjoyed working with Josephus in this role,” said Jocquelyn Boone, chief creative economy officer for Creative Greensboro. “He has shown that Greensboro artists possess extraordinary talent that deserves recognition across our city and beyond. I can’t wait to see what’s next for him.”
