City Issues RFI for Sale and Development of Glenwood Reinvestment Area Properties

Post Date:12/10/2025 10:30 AM

The City of Greensboro’s Housing and Neighborhood Development Department is launching a two-stage process for the sale and development of properties in the Glenwood Reinvestment Area. A Request for Interest (RFI) has been issued for qualified developers, community organizations, or other interested parties for the sale and development of properties at 1417 Glenwood Ave., 1115 Grove St., and 1104 W. Florida St. Details can be found here. The application period begins today, Wednesday, December 10, and proposals are due by 4 pm on Friday, January 30, 2026.

Built in 1954, the 26,500-square foot building served as the Glenwood United Methodist Church through 2022. The approximately 1.94-acre site is currently zoned Single-Family Residential. The City intends to sell the property as-is for adaptive reuse or redevelopment, which could include a future housing development or other community resource that enriches the surrounding Glenwood area. Since the City purchased the property in October of 2023, several service groups have temporarily used the site for food and resource distribution centers. All current organizations will be relocated from the site by spring of 2026.

A virtual information session will be held at 2:30 pm on Monday, December 15. Attendance is not mandatory, but highly recommended.

The second stage in the process is a formal Request for Proposals in spring of 2026 to entities who responded to the RFI. Additional information pertaining to the sale and development process will be discussed in the virtual information session.

"This process is designed to incorporate community feedback, provide a sense of clarity of the sale and development process, and encourage all interested parties to collaborate with the City of Greensboro,” said Housing Strategy and Development Director Samuel Hunter. “This will be a catalytic project for the Glenwood neighborhood, and we must ensure that the project serves the needs of the community."
