City of Greensboro Announces Holiday Closings

City offices are closed for the holidays on December 24, 25, and 26, as well as January 1, 2026. The following services and facilities will operate on a holiday schedule:

  • There are no trash and recycling collections on Thursday, December 25. Thursday collections will take place on Wednesday, December 24. Friday, December 26, collections remain the same.
  • There are no trash or recycling collections on Thursday, January 1. Thursday collections will take place on Wednesday, December 31. Friday, January 2, 2026, collections remain the same.
  • The White Street Landfill and the Solid Waste Transfer Station will be closed on December 25 and January 1.
  • The Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center is closed on the following dates: December 24, December 25, and January 1.
  • The Greensboro Public Library system and the Greensboro History Museum are closed December 24-26 and January 1.
  • The Greensboro Cultural Center is closed December 24-26. The center will close at 6 pm on December 31 and reopen at 8 am on January 2.
  • Greensboro Transit Agency (GTA) and Access GSO will operate on a weekend schedule with service from 6 am to 10 pm on December 25 and January 1. GTA administrative offices are closed December 24-26 and January 1.
  • The Parks and Recreation Department’s administrative offices and Adaptive and Inclusive Recreation program will be closed December 24-26 and January 1. Other impacted Parks and Recreation services include:

o   The Greensboro Sportsplex, Simkins Indoor Sports Pavilion at Barber Park, Greensboro Youth Council, and the Xperience @ Caldcleugh, are closed December 24-26 and on January 1.

o   The City’s recreation centers are closed on December 24-28 and January 1. Smith Active Adult Center and Trotter Active Adult Center are closed on December 24-26 and January 1. In addition, these facilities will close at 6 pm on December 31.

o   Lake Townsend, Lake Brandt, and Lake Higgins are closed December 24-26 and January 1.

o   City cemeteries are open, but services will not be performed on December 24 or 25.

o   The Greensboro Arboretum, Tanger Bicentennial Garden, Bog Garden, and Gateway Gardens are closed on December 25, as are Barber, Country, Hester, and Keeley parks.

o   The Gillespie Golf Course will close at 3 pm on December 24 and re-open at 8:30 am on December 26.

o   City trails remain open to the public.

  • The J. Edward Kitchen Operations Center will be closed to all in-person services December 24-26 and January 1. Alternative ways to pay a water bill can be found at www.greensboro-nc.gov/PayWaterBill. For water and sewer emergencies, including main breaks and sewer stoppages, or changes in taste, odor, or color of drinking water, call the Water Resources 24-hour Dispatch at 336-373-2033.
