With 5” to 6” of snow already on the ground and another possible 3” to 4” more to go, Greensboro Department of Transportation Deputy Director Nathanael Moore says it’s key to stay on task.
“We’ve had crews working 12 hour shifts, 24/7 around the clock for a week to battle, first the ice, and now the snow,” said Moore. “We have covered around 1,400 miles of roads thus far and won’t stop that schedule until roads are navigable.”
Priority 1 roads are the main thoroughfares. The goal is to have those cleared by tomorrow morning, but it’s a constant battle with snowfall rates still high. After that, it’s Priority 2 roads and then neighborhood streets (Priority 3).
Please remember that heavy snow can be almost as dangerous as ice, and staying off the roads is advisable until the snow stops and roads can be cleared. The Greensboro Police Department said Guilford Metro 911 was swamped during the first half of the day with calls about crashes on our roadways.
Also, the City of Greensboro has activated shelters for those in need of services.
