Members of the Greensboro Fire Department’s Urban Search and Rescue Team (USAR) and North Carolina USAR Task Force 6, will conduct a Structural Collapse Training Exercise from March 25–27 at the Davie Street Parking Deck, 109 E. Market St. in downtown Greensboro.

Greensboro Fire Department technicians will work alongside structural engineers from across North Carolina to simulate a large-scale building collapse and coordinated rescue operations.

Owned by BSC Holdings, Inc., the deck is scheduled for demolition later this spring, providing a valuable opportunity for Task Force 6 personnel to conduct realistic training in a controlled environment.

USAR Task Force 6, based in the Greensboro Fire Department, is a regional response team that deploys throughout North Carolina and across the nation to assist communities during disasters. The team is trained in complex technical rescue operations including structural collapse and swift water rescue.

Training objectives include:
• Breaching and breaking reinforced concrete to access trapped victims
• Operational planning and coordination with structural engineers
• Logistical support and incident management for complex rescue operations

Exercises such as this ensure that Greensboro Fire Department personnel remain prepared to respond to structural collapse emergencies both locally and wherever their assistance is requested across the state and nation.
