The City of Greensboro has been named a Family Forward NC Certified Employer once again by the North Carolina Early Childhood Foundation’s Family Forward NC initiative.
A Family Forward NC Employer Certification designates employers that offer policies and practices that support the health and well-being of working families and children.
“Recertification reflects the City’s sustained commitment to being an organization where employees can succeed both in their careers and in their family lives,” said City Manager Nathaniel “Trey” Davis.
The City first earned certification in September 2023 and has since maintained and strengthened the family-friendly benefits and policies that qualify it for recognition, including annual leave, paid family caregiver leave, paid leave for parental involvement in schools, sick family leave, flexible work arrangements, and lactation accommodations.
“I am proud to represent a City that promotes the well-being of its employees and their families through policies and benefits designed to encourage a strong work-life balance,” said Mayor Marikay Abuzuaiter.
“I’m really excited that the City has been recognized as a model employer for supporting working families,” said Councilmember April Parker. “The City’s new partnership with Childcare Network, which offers City employees a childcare tuition discount and up to four hours of free childcare for individuals to attend job interviews with the City, is just one example of this commitment.”
“When my husband was hospitalized on a ventilator due to COVID, I was able to use our paid caregiver leave once he was discharged,” said Contact Center Supervisor Veronica Mancera. “After being bedridden for two months, he needed full-time support at home. Having that time allowed me to be there for him every day—helping with his physical therapy, encouraging him, and supporting his recovery. I truly believe that being present during that time made a meaningful difference in his healing.”
