City Seeks Donations to Furnish Homes for Individuals Transitioning from Homelessness

The City of Greensboro’s Community Safety Department (CSD) requests donations of household items and furniture for the new Housing First Plus initiative. Housing First Plus is designed to move Greensboro’s most vulnerable individuals from the street into stable housing, while providing them intensive case management.

The pilot program, which combines intensive case management for clients with incentives and support for participating landlords, will work with 20 individuals. Some clients will be moving into unfurnished homes as soon as Monday, June 1. The CSD needs the following items:

Welcome Home Baskets Given to each client when they move into housing

 Furniture Needed for Each Client’s Home:

  • Laundry basket filled with the following household items:
    • Key chain/lanyard
    • Cleaning supplies - glass spray, sponges, bleach, dishwashing detergent, laundry detergent
    • Paper towels and toilet paper
    • Shower curtain and hooks
    • Trash can and trash bags
    • Bath and kitchen towels, washcloths
    • Hangers
    • Pillow, comforter and sheets (queen)
    • Plates and cups
    • Basic kitchen utensils
    • Pots and pans
    • Broom and dustpan

      

Furniture Needed for Each Client’s Home:

  • Mattress, box spring, and bedframe
  • Nightstand
  • Bedroom dresser
  • Lamps
  • Chair
  • Small couch
  • Coffee table
  • TV and TV stand
  • Small kitchen table with two chairs

The CSD takes a holistic, collaborative approach to improving Greensboro’s public safety through community-centered prevention initiatives, crisis intervention services to help de-escalate violence, and long-term, intensive case management for individuals whose issues—such as mental health, substance use, and homelessness—have put them in frequent contact with law enforcement.
