The victim in this incident has been identified as James Eleby Jr., 59, of Greensboro.
Fatal Crash on West Wendover Avenue/South Holden Road
GREENSBORO, NC (May 21, 2026) – Greensboro Police are continuing to investigate a fatal collision Wednesday in the area of West Wendover Avenue and South Holden Road.
Officers were dispatched to that area at approximately 2:23 p.m. for a collision that involved a pedestrian. The investigation determined a Chevrolet Impala was traveling east in the center lane on West Wendover Avenue, between Spring Garden Street and South Holden Road, as a pedestrian was walking north on West Wendover. The pedestrian was not using a crosswalk when a collision occurred in the roadway.
The pedestrian was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. The pedestrian, who has yet to be identified, died from injuries sustained in the collision.
The Greensboro Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit is conducting the ongoing investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
