Find another city in America where you can experience sumo wrestling, live music, competitive cornhole, and a mobile pub on one street in one weekend.
That’s what the City’s Parks and Recreation Department and Downtown Greensboro Inc. (DGI) have assembled for June’s Saturday Stroll on Elm June 5-6. The volume of activities expanded the monthly event into Friday for the first time this year.
The monthly community celebration begins with a dance party from 5-7 pm on Friday, and concludes with the BODYARMOR NC State Games Gate City Clash from noon to 5 pm on Saturday, June 6. The sumo wrestling competition will crown men’s and women’s champions in five different weight classes and warrants the closure of the 300 block of South Elm Street to vehicular traffic. Visitors will have the unique opportunity to see elite, regional athletes compete in a historic sport in downtown Greensboro.
SATURDAY STROLL ON ELM SCHEDULE

Friday & Saturday, June 6: Brew Peddlers will be on-site both days, offering a mobile, pedal-powered beverage experience.
Saturday, June 6:
Noon until evening: Elm Street transforms into a bustling, pedestrian-only market where visitors can browse a diverse collection of local vendors, national brands, and community organizations, all set against a backdrop of live music. Featured Saturday participants include: Sustainably Yours, Scentsation’z, Belle Etoile Esthetics, the Megan Moroney Official Store, Wrangler, and Renewal by Andersen, Carolina Theatre, the earlier.org Pink Ribbon Pop Up booth, and the central DGI Tent.
"Bringing an official NC State Games competition like sumo wrestling directly onto Elm Street is exactly the kind of energy that showcases our city's vibrant spirit," says Parks and Recreation Director Phil Fleischmann. "By pairing a premier athletic event with our fantastic local vendors, live music, and new Friday night activities, we are creating a dynamic weekend destination for residents and visitors alike."
As an added bonus, guests who presents a receipt from a downtown Greensboro business at the DGI tent will receive a branded Saturday Stroll bag and a $5 Boro Buck card to use at participating downtown shops and restaurants (while supplies last).
