Join the celebration honoring a half century of the oldest American Indian urban association in North Carolina, and one of the oldest organizations of its kind in the United States from 1-4 pm on Saturday, August 15 at the Greensboro History Museum, 130 Summit Ave. This free public program connects with a new Community Voices display at the Museum.

At 1:30 pm, a Talking Circle with GNAA and community leaders will share stories and reflect on Greensboro’s Native American/Indigenous communities’ struggles and successes. Panelists include Perry Hunt Jr. (GNAA Board Member, Pow Wow Chairman, Small Businessman), Amanda Jacobs-Ballard (GNAA Board Member, Storyteller, Gold Star Mother), Mrs. Daphine Strickland (GNAA Community Elder and Founding Member), Vic Maynard (Retired Deputy Chief, Guilford County Sheriff's Department), and Jennifer Revels Baxter (GNAA Executive Director). GNAA Board Chair Nora Dial-Stanley will moderate. An informal reception will follow the Talking Circle.

The new Community Voices display, “Guilford Native American Association: Celebrating 50 Years of Culture, Community and Change” includes photographs, handicrafts, and artifacts chosen by members of the association to highlight different cultures and perspectives that are part of the vibrant Triad Native American community. The display is on view in the museum lobby through September 20 and can be seen during regular museum hours.

The Community Voices space in the museum lobby hosts displays developed and produced by local organizations to highlight significant and sometimes unheard parts of our city’s history. Every year the museum works with two to three community organizations to develop these temporary displays.
