Intersection of South Benbow Road and Perkins Street Reopened

Post Date:08/14/2026 11:31 AM

The intersection of South Benbow Road and Perkins Street reopened Friday after City of Greensboro crews repaired a large sinkhole that appeared on Tuesday. A water main break triggered the sinkhole, which caused extensive damage to water and sewer lines below the road surface.

Transportation crews worked Thursday night into Friday morning to pave the intersection before cleaning the work area and surrounding roads. Stormwater staff has removed the remaining debris and barricades.

Residents should report water and sewer emergencies, including main breaks and sewer stoppages, or changes in the taste, odor, or color of drinking water, to Water Resources 24-hour Dispatch at 336-373-2033. Early detection and reporting help the department respond quickly and prevent issues from becoming more severe.
