How to Meet the City's MBE Criteria

To be eligible for MBE status, your business must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be at least 51 percent owned and controlled by one or more minority person: African American, Hispanic American, Asian American, Native American. Read more.

  2.  Be state certified as an MBE by one of these two state agencies: 
    NC Department of Administration - 984-236-0130 
    NC Department of Transportation - 984-236-1245

  3. Meet Greensboro’s criteria for MBEs -- Performs a “Commercially Useful Function,” Maintains a “Significant Business Presence,” Located within “Relevant Marketplace” -- as outlined on the City Criteria webpage.

Become a MBE Vendor

Begin the process to become a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) vendor with the City of Greensboro. All applications are handled virtually.

Start MBE application

 

After your information is reviewed and approved by staff, your firm will be listed in the City's Office of Business Opportunity Certified Vendor List. At that point, it will be eligible for MBE participation on City contracts.
