The Greensboro Fire Department has been fortunate since its inception in 1926 to have very few "in the line of duty" deaths. But with this job come inherent risks that include injuries and fatalities from fire, rescue, vehicle and stress related incidents.

Firefighters who have died in the line of duty are Firefighter Jesse Gray, Captain Raymond Cockman, and Captain Jackie Beard.
