Explorers

Greensboro Fire Department presents hosts an Explorers Program available to anyone considering a career in the fire industry. Our Explorers Program is a hands-on experience open to young men and women from the young men and women who are 14 (& have completed 8th grade), or 15-20 years old.

The Explorer Program’s purpose is to provide experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible adults.  Fire Explorers specifically focus on activities that help toward pursuing a fire service career. To learn more about the national program, click here

Explorers are also eligible to participate in the Department’s ride-along program.  This program provides the explorers with the opportunity to respond with fire companies to various emergency scenes.  Explorers observe the work of the firefighters as they carry out their daily tasks. Explorers are allowed to assist in non-emergency fire ground duties.
