About the Greensboro Fire Department
GFD is nationally accredited by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International. The Insurance Services Office also rates the department as Class 1. GFD employs approximately 574 men and women and is growing. The Emergency Services Division includes 25 fire stations and houses 24 engine companies, 11 ladder companies, and one heavy rescue company.

As of December 1, 2017, the starting annual salary for a GFD Firefighter is $35,994.
Educational incentives are offered to those with a two- or four-year degree within the first six months of hiring contingent on completing the Recruit Academy, as well as the six-month Firefighter I Exam.
