City Council approved the creation of the Ad-hoc Committee on African American Disparity (ACAAD) on October 6, 2020. The ACAAD's goal is to address barriers that prevent success for Greensboro's African American residents through policies, procedures, and regulations. Committee members research policy and procedures, obtain community feedback, and make recommendations to City Council regarding ways to improve access to resources for the city's African American population. Committee members serve two-year terms.

The group's work is divided into the following five focus areas:

The committee is always on the lookout for concerned residents to assist its work. For those who do not wish to hold a formal committee position, there are opportunities to serve as Ambassadors. Ambassadors are vital bridge-builders in the committee's community engagement efforts. Their work includes, but is not limited to:

  • Helping ACAAD members coordinate community discussions with specific audiences in their faith, civic, residential, or other communities.
  • Inviting ACAAD members to ongoing conversations where they can learn about community concerns and trends.
