World Refugee Day is an international day designated by the United Nations to celebrate the strength and courage of refugees who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution.

The annual World Refugee Day celebration is an opportunity to recognize and welcome Greensboro’s refugee community, show support, and recognize their resilience in rebuilding their lives. In recent years the City's International Advisory Committee has held a diaper drive, a soccer match, picnic, and ceremony in recognition of this special occasion.

Greensboro's 2025 celebration took place on June 21 at Hester Park. It featured a US citizenship ceremony, soccer games, and international dance and music performances. Some 38 groups, agencies, and organizations hosted tables at this year's event.

Special thanks to the sponsors who helped make this free event possible: Church World Service, ECAR – Guilford College, FaithAction International, Greensboro International Advisory Committee, Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department, Greensboro Police Department, Montagnard Dega Association, NC African Services, New Arrivals Institute, Reading Connections, UNCG Center for New North Carolinians.
