The City's Front Yard Parking Ordinance prohibits parking vehicles in front yards as well as side yards of corner lots, unless the vehicles are on improved driveways or parking pads. An improved driveway or parking pad is one that has a gravel, concrete or asphalt surface.
Where does the ordinance apply?
The ordinance applies to single-family detached and duplex dwelling units.
Are there exceptions to the ordinance?
Two exceptions to the ordinance are:
- When no parking is allowed on adjacent streets and the principal dwelling is less than 20 feet from the abutting street
- When no parking is allowed on adjacent streets and the lot width is less than 25 feet.
What is the purpose of the ordinance?
The ordinance helps to maintain a primarily residential appearance in front yards, and protects the quality and character of Greensboro neighborhoods.
What is the penalty for violating the ordinance?
The ordinance carries a $50 fine. Failure to pay for three parking tickets within a 90-day period may result in the City putting wheel locks on the vehicle.
